_____It may be a little late, but you need some real food. "Okay, meet me at Samson's." Fortunately, you find a space near the deli. A homeless guy opens the door for you and you give him a quarter to "watch" the car. As soon as you get in you are hit with the smell of fresh baked bread. For a moment you are transported back to the comfort of your grandmother's kitchen. Yeah, you definitely made the right choice.
_____You grab a table. Your chair is wobbly and the faint smell of ashes lingers about. There is only one other customer, an elderly man with his nose pressed against the glass case apparently unable to decide between tuna salad or pickled herring.
_____A guy comes from behind the counter to wipe off the table. "What can I get for you?" Smelling like aftershave and coldcuts, he gives you his best playboy smile.
_____Usually you would be annoyed, but you decide to play along. "When did Samson's start giving table service?"
_____"We don't, but every once in a while I like to make an exception."
_____"I'm not ready to order yet. I'm waiting for a friend."
_____"Boyfriend?"
_____"No, but don't get any ideas, Casanova. You aren't my type."
_____His attitude shifts quickly from suitor to victim. "Why are you down on a brother? You don't think my wallet is fat?"
_____"She means, I'm more her type." Both of you turn around to see Carla's athletic frame in the doorway. The long hair that usually framed her face was pulled back into a fierce ponytail.
_____"Oh Damn, my bad!" He finished wiping the table and scurried back behind the counter.
_____"Hi, Sweetie. I've been wanting to talk to you." Carla's cotton white tee shirt and hip hugging jeans beautifully showcase her curves. Though she is smiling, her deep brown eyes look tired.
_____You stand to give her a hug and she is a perfect fit. "You are a sight for sore eyes."
_____"Girl, don't say sore--my body is aching. I've been helping my aunt move. Actually, I did all the moving, she just pointed to where she wanted things placed."
_____"Sounds like you can use a bubble bath."
_____"Mmmhmm, and a massage, too. I had to get out tonight, though. I've been inhaling dust all day." Carla pulled out a chair and leaned against it.
_____"Come on, let's get some food inside of you. That'll make you feel better."
_____Both of you turn to the huge menu above the counter. Two items immediately jump out at you.
