3 months later....

_____Lane walked in to her apartment and, threw her coat over a chair. She walked over to the blinking answering machine and pressed the play button.
_____You have 4 new messages
_____The first one was from Vanessa, telling her that there was a new club that she wanted to go to. The second one was from her sister checking up on her. The third one was one of those telemarketers telling her she can win a free trip to Hawaii. She went to the kitchen and started to get some dinner ready. She rolled her eyes at the voice, telling her that she is a finalist for the trip. She was getting the eggs out of the refrigerator when Chase's voice entered the room.
_____"Lane, hi this is Chase. I uh am back in town and I thought I would give you a call. I've missed you. I want to know how your doing. I know it's been a while but I have been thinking about you and I want to see you, if that's ok with you. Since your not in yet, I'll call you later tonight. Bye."
_____Her heart stopped and she stood there stunned. She realized that she was standing there holding the eggs, so she put them on the counter, and willed her heart to stop beating so fast. She was trying to breathe right when the doorbell rang, startling her. She put the eggs down and walked over to the door and looked out the peephole. Her breath caught in her throat. Chase was standing outside her door. She collected herself and opened the door.
_____"Hello Lane" Chase said stepping inside.
_____"Hi, how are you?" Lane asked, trying to sound normal, Damn why did she still look so damn good? "I thought you said you were going to call back later?"
_____"I was, but I had to see you...I've missed you so much."
_____"Oh really? I'd think you wouldn't have too much time to miss me, I would think Toni keeps you busy."
_____"Toni and I broke up."
_____"Oh I'm sorry to hear that." Lane said.
_____"Are you really?" Chase said.
_____"No, not really, I wanted to be polite, so when did this happen?"
_____"Last month, she said she was restless and I was holding her back, so she left."
_____"Oh, Chase I really am sorry to hear that...I know how much you loved her."
_____"You do?" Chase asked.
_____"Yeah I do...you left me for her, you must have loved her a lot." Lane said bitterly.
_____"Lane..." Chase started taking a step towards her, but Lane cut her off.
_____"Look Chase, what do you want?"
_____"Well I uh, came here to ask you if we could start over again...I really missed you Lane, I know I fucked up, I let the best thing that ever happened to me, slip away and I am sorry. I want you back." Chase said with tears in her eyes.
_____I can't believe she's crying, Lane thought. I've never seen her cry before. Damn what am I gonna do? Well, watching Chase cry jerked her heartstrings and she stepped forward and embraced her in a hug.
_____"Shhh, please don't cry." Lane said, while Chase wept on her shoulder. Chase didn't say anything but she slowly raised her head and slowly placed her lips on Lane's.
_____Lane saw the kiss coming, but she didn't stop it. She missed Chase too, and to be kissing her lips again was pure bliss. The kiss got deeper and Lane moaned and pulled away. "Chase I missed you more than I can say. I gave you my heart and you stomped on it. I don't know if I can forgive you for that."
_____"Lane I know I hurt you, and I'm sorry but please, all I'm asking for is another chance. I let you slip away once, I don't want to do it again." Lane gave her a look that could have melted steel.
_____"Correction, you didn't let me slip away Chase, you left me, You walked out on me."
_____"Baby...I know," Chase said, the tears staring again, "And I am truly sorry for that, please...give me another chance."
_____Lane looked at Chase and, seriously thought about taking her back. She damn sure knew how to get at her. She looked at Chase and knew that she was gonna take her back. This was the girl she loved, stupid mistakes and all. She took a step back and walked to the other side of the room. "Chase, I love you, I really do, but you hurt me, and for that I can't forgive you...I'm sorry." She was surprised to see the look of shock and pain cross over Chase's face. Damn she really thought she could come in here, say a few sweet words and I would come running back to her. Well she is just gonna have to suffer for a little while, and if she sticks around then I'll take her back. And if she doesn't, then she wasn't worth it anyway. Happy with this plan she asked Chase to leave.

The next day, she woke up feeling good. Lane was eager to get on with the day. She was at work when a delivery man with a huge bouquet of flowers came up to her desk. "A delivery for Miss Edwards." He said placing the arrangement on her desk. Lane was pleasantly surprised. She had a smile on her face, but out the corner of her eye she saw Chase outside looking in to see her reaction. Seeing this, she accepted the flowers and dumped them in the trash can next to her desk.
_____The delivery man was shocked and she saw Chase frown. She smiled to herself, and thought, Oh no, it's not gonna be that easy.
_____She was starting her be a bitch campaign. No matter what Chase did, it wasn't good enough. She wanted to see her suffer, she knew she was being tough on Chase but she couldn't take the chance on being hurt again. She had to make sure Chase was serious, and she liked seeing her squirm. She had Chase put up with a lot of shit and was surprised that Chase kept coming back for more. After about a month she decided that she had put Chase through enough and decided to start being nice. She knew that love was a risk and it was a risk that she was willing to take.
_____When she got out of work, she stopped at the grocery store to pick up some things. She ran into Sandra, an old friend of hers from high school. They were happy to see each other and they talked for quite a while. She laughed to herself as she saw Chase casually walk past her aisle 4 times trying to look like she was really shopping.
_____Chase wanted to know who the hell was that woman talking to Lane. She didn't like the look of it, she had better break that up. She casually rolled her cart down the aisle picking things off the shelves not even paying attention to what they were. She rolled up to them and cleared her throat.
_____"Hi, Chase." Lane said.
_____"Hi."
_____"What are you doing here?" Lane asked.
_____"Well I'm uh...shopping, this is a grocery store"
_____"Chase you hate grocery shopping, and since when do you eat, spam, tuna, bacon..." Lane said looking into her cart, she gave Chase a funny smile that told Chase she knew exactly what she was doing. "Chase you hate tuna, you never touch spam and you don't eat pork." Then, she picked up the chew toy and the flea collar and held them up "Since when do you have pets." "Uh, I uhh don't, but just in case I do, I want to be prepared." She said knowing she was busted, Lane started laughing, "So who's your friend here." Chase said turning to Sandra.
_____"This is Sandra, we go way back."
_____"Yeah, well are we on for dinner tonight?" Chase asked.
_____"Dinner...were having dinner tonight?" Lane said in confusion.
_____"Sure we can honey, I thought you would never ask." Chase said kissed her on the cheek and quickly rolled her cart away. "I'll be there at 8," she said turning and disappearing.
_____"So that's Chase." Sandra said laughing.
_____"Yeah, that's her silly ass."
_____"She sure is cute, and crazy about you too."
_____"Yeah, well I'm putting her through a little hell before I take her back." and Sandra laughed.
_____"Well good for you, when my Kelly cheated on me I put her through the ringer before I took her back, and she loves me for it." They said their last good byes and parted.
_____Lane was at home getting dinner ready when the doorbell rang. She smiled and went to open it. Chase stepped in and thrust a bouquet of flowers at her.
_____"Well isn't that sweet." Lane said.
_____"Yeah, well I'm a new person." Chase beamed.
_____"Where did u get them from."
_____"I ordered them special and picked them up." Lane smiled and calmly walked into the kitchen and dumped the flowers in the garbage can. Chase's smile dropped. "Why'd you do that, you didn't like them?"
_____"Oh they were beautiful." Lane said fixing their plates.
_____"Then why did you throw them away?" Chase asked completely confused.
_____"Think about it and you'll see why, cmon lets eat."
_____They sat down to eat and Chase was reminded again of how much she missed Lane. "Can I ask you a question?"
_____"Sure."
_____"Uh...do you think that..." Chase fumbled the words and Lane started laughing.
_____"Spit it out." She chuckled.
_____"Well uh, do you think that you could feed me."
_____Lane stopped laughing. "I don't think so." She said and continued eating.
_____Chase was disappointed but she understood. That was something Lane did for her when she was her girl. "Lane..."
_____"Shhh Chase, just eat" Lane said.
_____This hurt Chase very much, usually Lane was interested in what she had to say, and dinner was usually the time they talked and communicated and had their most intimate moments. Chase was starting to think she would never get Lane back. But she was gonna try. She loved her and needed her and she wasn't giving up. They finished dinner and Chase went to her coat pocket and got out her surprise.
_____"I got a surprise for you" Chase said teasingly.
_____"What" Lane said dryly "I hope it's not more flowers."
_____"Nope, not flowers. Something better, something I knoooow you love."
_____"Well what is it." Lane said her curiosity peaked.
_____Chase pulled her hand from behind her back with a flourish. "Ta Daaaaaa" She was holding two movies. The Color Purple, which was one of her two favorite movies of all time and The Last Dragon, her other favorite movie of all time.
_____"Chase you remembered!"
_____"Yeah I remembered" Chase said with a huge smile, she was glad she could still make Lane smile. Lane gave her a excited hug, and a kiss on the cheek. Chase had a silly grin on her face. She was like a child, eager to please and it was cute.
_____"Cmon, I can't wait to see The Color Purple, I haven't seen that in years."
_____They got on the couch and began to watch the movie. Lane laughed and cried as she always did during that movie. Damn she loved that movie. At the end when the two sisters were united the waterworks really began and Chase got her a tissue. Chase smiled kissed her on top of her head and held her. Next they watched The Last Dragon. Chase loved to watch this movie with her, because Lane knew the whole movie and loved saying the lines with the characters.
_____"Whose the master? Sho'nuff, I said whose the master? Sho'nuff" Chase started cracking up as Lane did her best bad ass voice while she was talking along with the movie. She really missed these moments with Lane. Her and Toni never did anything like that. She started howling as Lane did her best Bruce Lee Roy impression. It was hilarious. When the movie was over they were both laughing and having a good time. They both really missed that. Chase looked at the clock and it was after one and she was getting ready to leave. She looked out the window and saw that it was raining outside. She hated driving in the rain.
_____Lane saw that it was raining and said, "You can sleep here if you want, I know how much you hate to drive in the rain." Chase smiled to herself OH YEAH she thought as she headed into the bedroom. She was met by Lane who was carrying a pillow and a blanket.
_____"You sleep on the couch" Lane said handing Chase the blanket and pillow she chuckled at Chase's surprised face.
_____"The couch?" Chase echoed
_____"Yeah, or you can sleep on the floor...but I recommend the couch"
_____Chase took the pillow and blanket and dejectedly walked toward the couch, all Lane could do was laugh. Chase hated the couch, it was hell on her back, she didn't get a good nights sleep at all. After tossing and turning all night, when the sun rose she got up and decided to make Lane breakfast in bed. She got in the kitchen and hooked some breakfast up. She was hoping she was gonna get a kiss on the cheek for that, maybe even one on the lips. She got a tray got a little single flower holder, picked a single flower out of the bouquet she fished out of the trash last night, put it in the little vase and went into Lane's room. She was careful to be quiet, she didn't want to wake her up, not yet. She carefully sat the tray on the bed, then something caught her eye.
_____ It was a framed picture of her that Lane took when they went to Great Adventures, she had a big smile on her face because she just won Lane a huge teddy bear.
_____I didn't know she kept that picture Chase thought to herself. Maybe she still does love me she thought. She turned to a peacefully sleeping Lane. She's so beautiful she thought. She leaned over and gave her a tender kiss on the lips.
_____When that didn't wake her up, she proceeded to give her a nice hickey on her neck. She loved sucking on her neck, it was so soft and smooth. That woke Lane up. She thought she was dreaming...until she heard the sucking noises and felt the pressure on her neck. She opened her eyes to see Chase with a smile on her face.
_____"Good morning sleepy head, I have prepared for you, breakfast in bed," Chase said formally. Lane looked at the tray Chase placed in front of her and smiled. Chase was one the worst cooks she knew. But she knew she had to eat it. She smiled and picked up the fork and grimaced as she ate the French toast, she made a mental note to herself to teach Chase how to cook. She ate as much as she could until she couldn't take it any more, she swore she was full. She gave Chase a kiss on the cheek and Chase was pleased. She went to the bathroom and brushed her teeth and washed her face. She came out and saw a contrite and sad looking Chase standing there.
_____"Thanks for eating my breakfast, I know it wasn't very good, but I wanted to make you breakfast in bed...I'll try again and It will be better next time" Chase wanted to please Lane so much but it seemed that nothing she did was right. She turned to go back to the living room when Lane touched her shoulder and said.
_____"Did I ever thank you for the breakfast?"
_____"Yeah you gave me a kiss on the cheek, remember?"
_____"Oh, well I meant to..." She stopped talking and pressed her lips against Chase's,
_____Chase's eyes widened in surprise. She was almost scared to kiss her back. She didn't want Lane to stop. The kiss felt so good that she couldn't help return it. They lost track of how long they were kissing, when they stopped, Chase had a silly grin on her face and Lane was looking happy too. "I meant to thank you with a real kiss." Lane said still trying to catch her breath. Lane couldn't take being indifferent to Chase anymore. She loved her and she couldn't take being a bitch to her anymore. She was ready to try this again. But she needed to do one more thing.
_____"Chase, baby...could you do me a favor?" Chase's heart raced when Lane called her baby. She never thought she would hear that from her again.
_____"Anything, you name it." Chase said.
_____"Could you go and pick me up some flowers?"
_____"Flowers? You want me to go and get you some flowers?"
_____"Yes." Chase knew this was a test, but for the life of her she couldn't figure out how to pass. But she was determined to. "Sure honey, anything for you," Chase said, putting her clothes on and grabbing her wallet. "I'll be back in a little bi,t" Chase said, and hastily stole another kiss. She walked out the door and went to the nearest flower shop. She was looking for the biggest bouquet they had and she was ready to pick one out when something stopped her. She remembered how Lane threw away the flowers she bought and ordered. She had it! Lane didn't want some flowers that she mindlessly bought or ordered. She wanted some flowers that Chase picked herself.
_____"Well I'll be damned" Chase said out loud.
_____"Excuse me ma'am?" The clerk said, and Chase snapped out of if.
_____"Oh, I'm sorry, I wont be needing these, I'm sorry," Chase said and walked out the door.
_____When they were together Lane looked all around to find Chase's favorite flowers. She deserved the same. It took Chase an hour to find the flower she was looking for. She found it growing in one of the parks in a garden that was restricted. But it wasn't gonna stop her. She hopped right over the fence and picked those flowers right out of the ground, roots and all. Then she stopped at every park on the way back to Lane's place and picked the most beautiful flowers she saw. By the time she got back, her journey had taken her across town, but it was worth it. She had seven different species of flower, each more beautiful than the other. She was dirty, especially her knees, and hands. She had a streak of dirt on her face from when she wiped the sweat off her forehead and forgot her hands were filthy. She was tired, but she got the job done. She showed up triumphantly at Lane's apartment. She opened the unlocked door and walked in. She had the flowers clutched in her fist and she presented them to a surprised and very pleased Lane.
_____"Where did you find all those flowers?" She asked.
_____"All over town, across town...it doesn't matter."
_____"You figured it out."
_____"Yeah I did, and I'm glad I did."
_____"Me too Chase."
_____"I'm sorry I was such an asshole, I didn't really appreciate you and all you did for me, but I do now, I really do and I promise that I have changed. I am gonna be so good to you baby, just you wait and see."
_____Lane smiled and nodded her head. She looked at the poor flowers Chase still had clutched in her hand and noticed a couple still had the roots on them. She noticed the look of pure adoration and love all over Chase's face. It was that look that Lane thought was reserved for Toni, she never thought she would see Chase looking at her like that, like she was the only woman in the world, but it was right there and she loved it. She gave Chase a kiss and smiled
_____"I believe you will Chase."
_____"I love you baby," Chase said.
_____"I love you to," Lane said and chills went through Chase's body. She feared she would never hear Lane say that again. She enveloped Lane in a fierce hug, and thanked her for giving her another chance.
_____"Come and sit down, I made us a real breakfast" Lane said and lead Chase over to the table where there was a plate waiting for her. Chase sat the flowers down on the counter and sat down to the table. She waited for Lane to sit next to her before she started eating and smiled at her. She started to pick up her fork but Lane beat her to it...she picked up Chase's fork and started to feed her.
