a beautiful flower sitting in the sun
i'm passing you on the way to work
everyday i long to place you in my lover's hands
but i can't, you're fenced in all around
why i wonder as i take the time to walk by
i must look a fool
standing at the barb-wire fence
staring at the single flower
now i leave home early
to stop and say hello
on the weekends i sit and play
give you water, toss you a little dirt
read a few poems to you
a few weeks later
i see a change
you've been growing
slowly towards the fence that seperates us
i tell you that i'm proud of you
more time passes
my lover is starting to worry about me
talking about you like you're a person
she thinks i'm cheating
i don't want to share what we have
now you're leaning through the fence
one day i'm talking and you're listening
slowly i doze off after giving you water
i dream of you speaking to me
you're tellin me good-bye and that you'll be back
i scream for my friend in you
i beg you not to go
you say you must
but for me to take a petal to remember you
i awake so suddenly
scared out of my mind
i remember the dream and take the petal
i take one last look at you run my fingers along your stem
take the journey back home to show my lover
she doesn't understand but takes me in her arms
hours go by i miss talking to you
i grab my keys and rush to you
i fall to my knees against the fence
my jaws drop as i look for you
your absence is tearing at me
where did you go?
how could you leave?
why now, not later?
i sulk to my car
drop my head and walk in pain
shortly i arrive at home
i find my lover on the couch
i go to her open arms
she wraps me in them
wipes away my stream of tears
leads me to our garden
she covers my eyes as i get to the door
when she lets me look
there you are staring at me
i turn to my lover
stare into her eyes with so much passion
she brought you home to me
she says she followed me
saw me with all the happiness and peace
she kisses me
i wrap my arms around her waist
she whispers "now i don't have to share you
maybe you'll stay home more often"
i smile and kiss her back
"no baby, nothing would keep me from you
i was gonna bring her home to show you
the beauty that our love has grown"
