_____by Rebecca Strait
You warned me from the start
Said you loved ‘em and left ‘em
And didn’t even care
What they were feeling
But now that you’ve grown and matured
And developed feelings of your own, for me,
You’re afraid that I’m gonna do you
Like you did them
You think I’m gonna cut the cord
Slam the door in your face, the phone on the console
And write you a letter of dismissal
A letter of discontent
I should’ve listened when you warned me
Should’ve heard when you told me
That you don’t like attachments or to be tied down
For if I would have listened and taken heed from the beginning
I would not have fallen in love
Become heartbroken, desire-full, or depressed.
