Woke me up outta my sleep

But not really

‘cause something told me today would be the day

The day

Like so many before

She said I was too strong (in so many words)

Too verbally evasive

Too NOT aware

Of her feelings

Too NOT respectful of this

What we had

What we thought we had?

No, what we have

It’s real

Or so I thought

So, she told me

And I know that

Sometimes I wasn’t as thoughtful

Or I could’ve been a little bit sweeter

And I could’ve attempted to go a little further

than what was expected of me

Sometimes

She said she could no longer do this

That it was getting old

The apologies

The back and forthness of us

But I was the honey in the middle of her hive

And she made me drip sweet sop

Everytime

And we made music

Everytime

And she loved me

And I loved her

And she loves me

And I love her

But she woke me up outta my sleep

And it was 5:11 am

I distinctly remember this

There was a knot in my throat that wouldn’t let me speak

Still wanting to be that evasive me

But knowing that this would be the day

The day she’d call me and tell me that

She’d no longer accept my apologies

Cause there would be no more

No more us

No more honey

No more music

And I reluctantly obliged

And I know I’ll regret it but

My vision is cloudy and

My speech is paralyzed and

My life is slipping away from me

I glance at the red beam of light from my indiglo

And a tear softly falls onto my pillow

And I don’t know whether I’m crying cuz she left me or cuz

It’s 5:11 am
