Nghosi Books’ Call for Submissions: Anthology 2009

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
BLACK LESBIAN EROTIC ANTHOLOGY
I Love You To Death: Black Lesbian Diaries
Edited by Shonia L. Brown

Nghosi Books brings you its deadliest and most tantalizing tales of black lesbian erotica in the form of diaries from lesbians who won’t take no for an answer. Have you ever had a one night stand that you wished you hadn’t? Or what about the woman that you know loves you if she would just give in to her hidden desires? Do you find yourself looking over your shoulders after inhaling a scent of her hypnotic perfume? And try as you might, because you know you shouldn’t, you fantasize and might just a little, desire this strange but sexy lesbian whose favorite lyrics are, “If loving you is wrong, I don’t wanna be right!”

Do you have a tale of obsessive passion and/or borderline stalker story in you, written as if it were from a page of your very own private diary? Then join the talented new writers from Nghosi Books with our second edition from the New Voices Series of our small print press with the upcoming release of “I Love You to Death: Black Lesbian Diaries”. This anthology will be published in late 2009, but we are currently accepting submissions starting on October 31, 2007 until October 31, 2008.

Calls for Submission: Lesbian, Queer, and Bisexual Women and Trans People Making and Having Babies

Posted in Uncategorized on October 13th, 2007 by

(This is not a Kuma announcement, see end for submission details.)

We are seeking submissions for a collection of creative nonfiction stories focusing on lesbian, queer, and bisexual women and trans people making and having babies together or alone. This anthology will focus on the experiences of conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenthood from a queer perspective. Some of the topics we hope to address include, but are not limited to, the following…

• How did you come to the decision to become a parent?
• What was the process and preparation like for you?
• What type of donor did you use?
• What was the insemination process like?
• Where did you give birth? Who attended your birth?
• How has your family responded to you during pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, birth, and as a parent?
• How has your transition into parenthood affected your queer identity and your relationships with other non-parent queers?
• Do you have any queer friends who are parents?
• What is the support network like in the place you live?
• Has your queer community been accepting and supportive of your choice to become a parent? In what ways have you felt disappointed by your community?
• Has your gender and/or identity affected your path into parenthood?
• How has your experience as a current or potential queer parent been unique from other parents? What are the commonalities between you and other queer parents, if any?

Guidelines for submission are very flexible, and writers may submit their stories in the form of memoir, personal essay, birth story, and cultural commentary. All nonfiction submissions will be considered. No fiction, please.

Submissions are due by January 15, 2008. Hardcopy or electronic copy will be accepted, although hardcopies cannot be returned. Please email for more information.

All submissions are welcome and family photographs are encouraged!
