I wanted to make love to you
I wanted to experience
mind sex
sex in the mind
sex having sex
all with you
and only you
I wanted to bother you
while you made pancakes
and complained about turkey bacon
I wanted to walk up behind you
and kiss you on the neck
as you complained about
the turkey bacon
I wanted to just be near you
but I realized that
you are there
and I am here
and I have a girl
whom I like
but today I wanted to be
with you
I wanted to talk to you
for hours and hours
laugh about nothing at all
but everything in particular
I wanted to lie with you in bed
and write poems about each other
and then exchange them
while music played in the background
but I am here
and you are there
and I have a girl
but I love you
I wanted to go through our
music collection
and reminisce on songs
and tell each other about what
songs meant the most to us
but we're just friends
I have to remember that
and I have a girl
and I cannot do her wrong
I wanted to get a little tipsy
while we played spades,
checkers, chess and go-fish
but I have to believe in this decision
but most of all
I just wanted to see you smile
because I do love you
